GTA 6 Launch: Everything We Know So Far

The Wait Is Almost Over
After years of speculation, leaks, and Rockstar's signature secrecy, GTA 6 is finally on the horizon. Set in the fictional state of Leonida — a sun-drenched, crime-riddled reimagining of Florida — the game promises to be the most ambitious entry in the franchise yet. Here's everything we know, what's been rumored, and what we expect.
Release Date
GTA 6 has a confirmed release date of November 19, 2026. The date was pushed back from earlier windows after Rockstar took additional time to polish the game — a pattern consistent with their approach to previous titles.
Confirmed Platforms
GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at launch. A PC version has not been officially announced, though it is widely expected to follow. Rockstar has historically staggered PC releases — GTA V launched on consoles in 2013 and didn't hit PC until 2015 — so a delay for PC players is likely, with some reports suggesting a possible 2027 release, though nothing is confirmed.
Setting: Welcome to Leonida
Leonida is Rockstar's love letter to the Sunshine State. From the official trailers, we know Vice City returns as the beating heart of the map, and the world extends beyond the city limits. Trailer footage has shown sprawling swamplands (the Grassrivers), rural areas, beach towns, and the Leonida Keys — an island chain inspired by the Florida Keys. The map appears to be significantly larger than GTA V's Los Santos and Blaine County combined, though Rockstar hasn't confirmed exact dimensions.
Dual Protagonists: Lucia Caminos & Jason Duval
One of the biggest confirmed reveals: GTA 6 features a female protagonist for the first time in the HD-era series. Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval are a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style duo navigating the criminal underworld of Leonida. Trailer 2 revealed that a robbery gone wrong pulls them into a wider conspiracy across the state. The community expects players will be able to switch between them during missions, similar to the character-switching mechanic in GTA V.
The Trailers So Far
Trailer 1 (December 2023) introduced us to the world of Leonida, its social media-obsessed culture, and the dual-protagonist dynamic. Trailer 2 (May 2025) was a surprise shadow drop that shattered records with 475 million views in its first day. It was built entirely from in-game footage on PS5 and gave us our deepest look yet at the narrative, the visual fidelity, and the world density.
What We Expect From GTA Online 2
While Rockstar hasn't officially detailed the multiplayer experience, a next-generation GTA Online mode is widely anticipated to launch alongside or shortly after the single-player campaign. Based on Rockstar's track record, we expect crews, heists, property management, and a dynamic economy — but the specifics remain unknown. Rockstar has confirmed plans to expand the game post-launch with new missions and cities.
